North Dalmatia
North Dalmatia is the part of Croatia that is situated on the coast from the southern part of the island Pag in the north-west to the Rt Ploca (2 km from Rogoznica) in the south-east, it includes the coastal region of the Zadar and Sibenik-Knin county with the bigger cities (Zadar, Sibenik, Biograd na Moru, Nin, Pag, Knin, Vodice…), the hinterland and islands (Pag, Dugi otok, Ugljan, Pasman, Iz, the Kornati islands, Murter, Zlarin, Prvic, Silba, Premuda...). It is a big area that is rich both in natural (national parks – Paklenica, Kornati and Krka; parks of nature – Telascica, Vransko Lake, Velebit; ornithological reserve, beautiful canyons – Cikola River canyon, Zrmanja River canyon; caves – Modric Cave; beaches, travertine waterfalls, lagoons with black mud – Nin, turquoise sea) and historical sights. This region holds a real treasure of archaeological monuments of ancient, medieval and renaissance period and Dalmatian architecture. The gastronomy is based on meals of fish, shellfish and mollusks, lamb, vegetables, Mediterranean spices and olive oil. It is ideal for everybody looking for new experience and adventures. You can have fun in different ways: party on the islands, enjoy the atmosphere of many local taverns, dance in discotheques, participate in numerous events, fairs and festivals or do some sports (fishing, trekking, diving, walking, climbing, kayak, rafting, caving, hunting, paragliding and parachuting, cycling, recreational sports…). If you are looking forward to switching off your mobile phone during the vacation, the Zadar area is well known for Robinson tourism, you can easily rent a house or a cottage on an island and fully enjoy in the intact nature.
North Dalmatia is easy reachable by car, bus, train, plain or ship. It has good traffic infrastructure and the cities of Zadar and Sibenik are directly connected with other Croatian cities. You can reach this region easily by plain landing in the Zadar or Split airport, which have good connections with Europe, especially during high season. The islands are easily accessible due to the ports and frequent ferry lines. North Dalmatia has a very indented coast (more than 500 islands and islets, numerous straits, channels and hidden coves), which makes Zadar and Sibenik, among other yacht bases (Biograd, Murter, Skradin, Sukosan, Ugljan, Vodice, Primosten) the ideal starting point for a beautiful cruising vacation.
